    Air pollution

    Water pollution

    Noise pollution

    How does Data Pollution sound?

Data Poisoning sounds crazy. But real.

  • So it is called PKM

Another short form and another expression. Personal Knowledge Management.

Hmm… Niklas Luhmann’s system of arranging his notes could be classified as that. And that tells us how difficult or painstaking PKM could be.

I’ve been too restless for such undertakings.

  • CX

I am naïve in certain ways. Words and expressions in fashion often elude my awareness.

It turns out that Customer Experience (Design) is shortened to CX. Like UX. Where else has ‘experience’ been turned into ‘X’?

While the shortened form sounds and looks amazing, so many organizations offer the same lousy customer service experience, perhaps lousier than earlier.

I have a solution in mind. I will write in detail about that.

  • Can you multiply joy?

Dear Mr. Advertiser and Advertisement Viewer,

If ads are to be believed, may be you can.

Some time back, Coca Cola said Open Happiness. Once you open that, you can multiply it too.

In today’s newspaper, on the front page:

Suppose they didn’t write Multiplying joy, would it have made a difference? Would Vivo sound committed enough, or more committed without those words?

Mr. Marketing Head must’ve added this after the ad was made, perhaps. No? What’s your guess?

  • Space Compression

    Virtual World

    (Online) Gaming

    Videogame

What are the opposite respectively for each of these expressions?

    Physical World / Real World

(Offline) Gaming? Should be a Cricket Ground or Football Ground!

    Non-video Game?

It gets weird as we think how easily some expressions slip out of our mouth and are understood just as easily.

One of the greatest losses in cities is this compression of space. No urban planner or politician has been able to do much about it. No community either, if one can find such a thing in any city.

  • Leadership

Just noticed that on Linkedin you can add Leadership as a skill in your profile.

I would be wary of anyone who writes such a thing, especially an MBA.

Grammatically, I would still accept Leading as a skill.

Think about it, I might even take Leadering as a skill.

I might even accept Leadershipping for once.

  • Software Operator

Machine Operator, that’s a common expression.

    Software Operator? Nobody uses that.

They say, ‘Familiarity with xyzware is a must.’

Is Operator a downmarket expression? I think it captures skill and efficiency nicely.

  • SaaS, again a misnomer

SaaS, how beautiful the word looks. No?

The full form is Software as a Service.

Didn’t I tell you in an earlier post that software is a machine? Remember?

Right, so then it should read Machine as a Service.

That sounds like the business of selling and servicing cars. No? Machine as a service! ‘Service’ earns more than the machines for the car companies. Recurring. Except that the upkeep of cars does require ‘service’.

Now I can debate that ‘software requires service’ is as true as ‘car requires service’.

Machine as a Service. Hmm… Assuming the idea conveyed by this expression is digestible, what’s the cost of such a service? Answers are unpleasant.

  • Indiamart is a strange machine

In some other posts I wrote, software is a machine.

In this post, I must write, website is a machine.

And platform is a machine too.

I’ve been working all day on some or the other thing to understand how Indiamart works and how I should shape our business’ presence on the platform.

If you understand that words are a headache, understand also that Indiamart is a strange machine.

  • That Skill for Ecommerce

Seeing, and converting your seeing into words, these are 2 important skills for ecommerce.

Combined, the 2 skills might be called ‘Informationalizing’.

Have trouble pronouncing? Try speaking ‘nationalizing’ and retry speaking ‘informational-izing’.

    Yeah?

  • Short-form and its consequences

What’s the full form of MRP?

    Your question is so dumb.

Never mind, the full form of MRP is Maximum Retail Price.

    Huh! What’s the big deal?!

The deal is that MRP is the maximum that can be charged. And that the seller can charge less than maximum too. And that most sellers charge you the maximum.

    So?

    So, your foot!

  • Title of the 2nd Chapter

In Luhmann’s Love as Passion, the 2nd chapter carries this title:

Love as a Generalized Symbolic Medium of Communication

In my life I never thought I would be reading the expression LOVE amidst such words. But then it is Mr Luhmann and he can make it sound dry like this and yet ever intriguing all the same.

And then there are those who do their doctorates in sociology. Hello Mr Phd in Sociology, do you have Mr Luhmann’s felicity and mind to subject and address LOVE this way?

    Wow!

I won’t talk any more about it at the moment. Let this sink in.

  • Invisible Obstacles

Some expressions barely make sense to me. But for people to exchange ideas, expressions have to be ‘created’ and expressed in very short moments. And so, even if the expressions are not quite there in terms of what they try to capture and represent, they gain currency.

For slow stubborn minds like mine however, they are invisible obstacles to overcome. The invisibility adds to the slowness and what makes them obstacles.

    Take an example: Civil Engineering.

Now it feels like a simple thing to grasp, isn’t it. But not for me.

Here’s what it means: Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways.

You’d say what’s the big deal here. Right. No big deal, except that I’ve grasped and understood its meaning only now.
