  • WEBSITE

A construction site sheds its name of CONSTRUCTION SITE after a while when the construction is all done. It is no longer considered a site.

WEBSITE has been appropriately coined. It is always a SITE. Always something left to be constructed.

  • Website is actually a communication factory

I have a shop on Shopify (link at the end of this post).

I often say that software is a machine.

When I look at my Shopify website and the kind of feedback I receive from patrons, visitors and users of this website, I am tempted to add some apps to this website in the hope that users have a better experience and I can market my products and website in better ways.

Website is a container for Shopify store which is a software which is a machine.

Apps are also software which are machines.

This gathering of machines makes it a factory. A communication factory.

  • Don’t make it a machine again

    Machines create books.

    Machines create websites.

    Machines create machines.

Your website can feel like a book or it can feel like a machine. There are easy machines, funny machines, tough machines et al.

To me, ‘website’ feels like a bad name for an information product. But it has been here for so long. Am sure makers of websites, typically, do not even understand the meaning of the expression ‘site’, off-site and on-site notwithstanding.

  • Table of Contents

Imagine! Website owners and makers do not want to adopt a simple book-like TABLE OF CONTENTS for their website.

For many machines, you get instruction manuals with such elaborate TABLE OF CONTENTS.

Are websites meant to confuse? To slow the visitor down?

  • Using information

Books help you do that. They give you the theories, formulae, logic, etc. to use/process the information and arrive at inferences/conclusions. And different books use the same information to give you competing results.

On many occasions websites/applications are nothing but instant processing machines based on the same theories, formulae, logic given in some of these books. Feed the info, get the result. Quick and smart.

Websites are nice. Books aren’t so (subscription to websites far outstrip the readers of books).

  • Is the web-page graphucked?

What is a graphic? The thing that can be seen all across the internet? Or graphic is just an adjective and graphics is the real thing? Have I lost it in the first paragraph itself?

But if there is something called an ad, allow me to call something a graphic.

What is a graphic supposed to do? Contrast this with a question on ads. What is an ad supposed to do?

So a graphic is supposed to draw attention? To draw attention from what to what? From the written matter to the graphic matter? Or from whatever you are thinking to the graphic?

You write all the content and then pepper graphics across a web page?

Content in the form of words is not meant to be read? Is it only there to support or to show support for the graphics?

You make such web-pages because your ads don’t do a great job of communicating? Your graphics are semi-ads that do the job of full ads?

You use graphics since you like the eyes of your web-page visitor darting and dancing in zigzag fashions? Zigzag movements of eyes are sexy?

Graphic design and web-page design are exclusive domains? One who does one thing doesn’t understand the other thing?

    Web-page is obsolete?

  • Website, to glam or not to?

‘Website’ is a misnomer. But what we call ‘website’ ought to carry a name.

Someone called it a website once and after that everyone felt like calling it a website. So we call it a website.

Plenty of our buyers tell us your website, www.mississippiearrings.com, ought to be glam.

We started selling the kind of earrings we sell so that your faces look glam, your looks look glam.

We did not start the website for the website to look glam.

Okay, let me put this in some other terms. Website is not a physical building that stands in some space, and that tries to stand out in that space. Website is just a background against which you view something, in our case our earrings.

Imagine paper trying to be glam! What will happen to the writing? For colorful glam pics, paper can be glossy but that’s that. Paper ought to be background and remain that way.

Now you would say, website is a structure too. But I would say, structure isn’t website. Structure is exactly that, structure. Or let me say, structure is a structure against the background of website.

Does it resonate with you? Does this makes sense? To me it does. When I have better words and explanations, I will write another post.

Some web designers or decision makers may get scared just by the look of such an email and cow down. This is how businesses are standardized and screwed for the purpose of ‘alignment’ with algodrithm. You are talking with algodrithm; it’s Google. And you had better behave!

Websites are actually machines. Look at the words. Sites as Machines. Once you think of a website as attention-gobbler, it is easy to imagine it as a machine. Is it?

    Another term: Schema Matching

The terms schema matching and mapping are often used interchangeably for a database process.

I gotta use both schema matching and mapping for my purposes.
