  • Un-revisitable Data

    The amount of data getting accumulated for every single person cannot be revisited by that person or by any person at all. Except the bots.

    But yes, something may have to be retrieved from such data. At what time, what date? 5 years from now? 2 years from now? Who even knows!

    All the storage in the world is created for such data.

    But if you attempt to store in your own individual capacity, you would lose most of it. Why? Digital storage media, at least the popular ones, are not durable.

    And so you pay for digital data storage that is un-revisitable. And you keep paying. Only bots can revisit. You can retrieve something essential only if you remember that it is in storage and if you know what to ask to the machine to retrieve such data.

    Incredible phenomenon!

    The way sentences are crafted, we come to believe the computational view, well promoted in Facebook’s language and algorithmic feature.

    MEMORY IS NOT STORAGE

    Memory strictly is a unique feature among living beings. It may get aided or distorted or changed basis certain factors.

    Often we say, retrieving memory. It isn’t a memory actually if it isn’t retrieved. What I mean, there is no memory without retrieval. Unrestrieved memory is no memory. You see that crazy use of words. Sorry if it is confusing and thank you if you get it.

    In fact, there could be a meta-memory which hints at memory of a retrieved memory, that’s possible. But it ends there. RETRIEVAL cannot be teased apart from memory.

  • Imprisonment

    We create an ecom website on Shopify. We do not like it for some reason. We want to create a new website without using some other platform. Everything is there but the structure we created on Shopify won’t port (or move) to another platform just like that.

    You do not like a Toyota, you can go try a Honda or a Ford or whatever. There’s no issue of porting.

    You do not like a Lamy, you can go try a Jinhao or a Diplomat or something else. There’s no issue of porting.

    The issue of data and structure porting almost ensures imprisonment.

    I see what’s happening.

    Early morning Youtube bingeing spins my head. The sounds, voices, background music… Quieter mornings are better mornings.

    Blog-portability is an issue. Have you ever tried doing that?

    If I want to preserve these thoughts I type on this wordpress blog, I shall have to pay for the storage every single year. No?

    I can write all such stuff in my notebooks (paper notebooks I mean) but then I can’t share with you, I can’t spread the stuff I write. I have to pay a price to spread, to share.

    In the world of non-digital matter, Storage Place can be said to stay alright for eternity. Almost, for practical purposes.

    Can there a term like Digital Storage Place? But what can then be said about the longevity and durability of Digital Storage Place? We surely know, it isn’t any close to eternity. If it isn’t eternity, can we bear the costs of non-eternal Digital Storage Place?

    For some time now, I’ve been having conversations with friends about data storage and the durability of storage media, considering how much content is getting created.

    The other point I have been talking about is revisiting the content we ourselves create. I am a bad revisitor. How about you?
