Just because you have a container and you can give it a good name, does not mean you have to fill the container and show it to others.

I tested the Magento admin panel.

Why can’t some looks be renewed for software?
Does the software code inhibit changes?
Is it something more fundamental than just the code that one writes?

All these are lists: FB, Twitter, my bursty blog, Instagram and such others. Weird algos working to display those lists to us. And more and more my feeling is these lists don’t serve me well.

  • It still doesn’t mean ‘read’ the double blue…

It still doesn’t mean ‘read’, the double-blue-ticks in Whatsapp. All it means is ‘seen inside the chat window’. In the age of forwards, only ‘read’ has value.

Composed by you, it will be read. And the one who still doesn’t read, can rot. Worry not about the double-blue-ticks.

  • Two points in the context of using software…

Two points in the context of using software, made by others, in ways that can serve us well:

    • Treat every software as an object
    • Irrespective of the nature of the object, ask yourself what you would like to do with it

Say, in a weird situation, you have a nail to hammer but no hammer. So would you not hammer the nail in? You’ll search for something that serves as a hammer. You’ll look around and you find a weirdly shaped small block of stone. Or say a smoothly shaped paper weight. The obvious question: can this be used to hammer the nail?

3rd point, once you’ve figured what you would like to do with the software object:

    • So which part of the stone can really hammer the nail and which part you will use to grip and apply a hammering force?

4th point, remember to start with a question and ask a question of any kind in the context of any software object.

Phew, long post by my standards. Any useful?

The first screens on FB and Twitter are feeds filled with others’ posts. I am more comfortable seeing a timeline filled with my thoughts first.

What a delight, few taps turning into words and then that magnificent gesture of pressing the ‘Post it’ button. Publishing, just like that.

Oh, these ecommerce CMSes are so sleep-inducing. Takes a lot of time to learn the funny skills of operating these complicated machines. And words that make up the language that make us use these machines, you don’t want to deal with them. They obscure it so that they can take the money to operate the obscurity on your behalf.
