So what if so many scientific and mathematical concepts are well explained and laid out. The worst we can do is to hammer-spoon-feed them to kids, which we typically do.

    Hope emerges in weird ways.

Having a big long work table top, having a good keyboard, keeping good distance between the screen and myself, having a chair that allows my legs good a amount of freedom, give me some hope I shall be able to learn new things.

The trick to having good ideas is not to sit around in glorious isolation and try to think big thoughts. The trick is to get more parts on the table.

  • Cultivation of disdain for reading that’s one of…

Cultivation of disdain for reading, that’s one of the successes of Indian education system.

The association of what they call ‘textbook’ with classroom, with important questions, with getting marks through the excruciating process of insane amount of temporary memorizing for exams, with funny teachers, makes sure that most of the youngsters look at ‘reading’ with utter disdain.

Reading means ‘padhaaku’, means ‘spectacles’, means ‘impractical’, means ‘theoretical’, means ‘philosophical’.

Reading doesn’t mean ‘hard work of attempts at understanding’, ‘diligence’, ‘intelligence’, ‘smartness’, ‘improvement’, ‘beholding’, ‘observation’.

So one of the most basic, accessible, important, entertaining and rewarding skills for growth in one’s life is found to be one of the most repulsive activities among youngsters.

This, my friends, is the success of India’s education system.

  • Two points in the context of using software…

Two points in the context of using software, made by others, in ways that can serve us well:

    • Treat every software as an object
    • Irrespective of the nature of the object, ask yourself what you would like to do with it

Say, in a weird situation, you have a nail to hammer but no hammer. So would you not hammer the nail in? You’ll search for something that serves as a hammer. You’ll look around and you find a weirdly shaped small block of stone. Or say a smoothly shaped paper weight. The obvious question: can this be used to hammer the nail?

3rd point, once you’ve figured what you would like to do with the software object:

    • So which part of the stone can really hammer the nail and which part you will use to grip and apply a hammering force?

4th point, remember to start with a question and ask a question of any kind in the context of any software object.

Phew, long post by my standards. Any useful?

It takes guts, accepting your own foolishness, to stay away from bull-shit. Admit it.

I am prone to foolishness even now. But I am quick and brave enough to admit it to myself. Thank you God for this strength.

I’ve asked for a refund from siteground.com. I’ve decided to withdraw. I don’t like arrangements surrounding the wordpress CMS. It may be world-famous and dominating and this and that but I clearly see issues of transparency and simplicity, though of course the entire world finds WordPress simple. Bull! A whole lot of bull!

Wow, the sameness of everything, the claims of every platform that allows you to build some website for this or that, it’s mind-boggling, mind-numbing.

Now I discover Laravel. Always am late to the party and then sit in the corner watching the dance.
