  • Textbook-based Minds

    Dear Parent,

On top of the silly textbook-based education till 10th, got created a scoring system.

On that scoring system of 10th got created a silly tri-partite silly stream-based textbook-based system of higher education.

College, the less said the better. Another set of textbook-based education for 3 or 4 years.

Post-graduate, more textbook-based stuff, barring I guess medical education.

Tell me one thing, in what sort of place would a child tend to learn chemistry better? What should be the combination of textbook and non-textbook education for a child to develop better interest than she already has?

Do you really believe that a youngster studying for at least 21-22 years of life can do only this much by the time she graduates? Is that the only ability and talent that a typical youngster can display to get a job? Really?

What convinces you so much of your beliefs? And why wouldn’t you ask yourself such questions anyway?

Mind you, I haven’t even factored in the textbook-based tuition classes that youngsters are made to sit through and all the textbook-based ed-tech that they’re surrounded with.

No, don’t tell me that youngsters are dancing and becoming popular on social media. It’s some talent I understand; I really am not talking about dancing.

Books I have loved reading. What kind of books do you read?

Looking to gift her something special?

Are you an interior-designer in Ahmedabad? Or an architect?

  • PayU unable to use data

I read someone’s comment: businesses need to keep with up tech.

I countered: tech needs to keep up with businesses.

I’ve been chasing PayU for quite a while. But a little transaction that they’ve tried goofing up got me chasing them all morning today.

These guys are apparently said to be sitting on ‘data’ with which they solve problems. This is the result that the likes of these big tech companies yield. Of course, I am just an anecdote; they have all the data.

And the lifestyles that have developed now, while gymming, the gym prevents sunrays from touching your skin. In fact, on the contrary, the gym airconditions your skin.

  • Kya hai yeh Keeway 250V!

    Dear Brand Manager,

    What is Victorious Muscle?

You see I wrote on the email id shared on your website but I was kind of dismissed after a short chat with someone in the sales team, that too after a stern follow-up from my end to elicit a response to my email.

No, I did ask for your contact, a way to have a chat with you, even if that meant flying down to your office.

I was told the Marketing Team handles this and has given the project to an agency. “If they need you, they will contact you.”

Who needs whom, well in this world, who can even tell.

I said to the sales guy I was talking with, “Look I’ve got an idea that will really benefit a product like the Keeway 250V in the Indian market. It may position this brand in just the right way and may have a great impact on sales.”

The conversation was closed with some platitudes by your sales guy.

Life, I tell you, even when you have the right idea and the product is right in front of you, you can only wish…

  • How many read?

    That’s a misleading question.

I meant to ask “How many read these thoughts I am posting”?

In the last couple of days since I’ve started sharing the links to these posts as Whatsapp Statuses, I see that at least 300-400 folks see each of these statuses on their screens. How many actually read? 3, 5, 10!

No it isn’t anyone’s fault, but such is the system that has gotten created and such is the density of inanity that needs to be penetrated. And such are the processes of lifestyles.

  • History of Indian Textbooks

More Indian youngsters are made to read and learn from what we call as Textbooks than those made to read and learn from any other book.

It would be amazing to chart out the history of the development of these textbooks, in English or any other language.

    What do you think?

I am interested in the history of these textbooks because of how pathetic they are. That’s right.

  • Reading for Content Writing?

Happened to read a few things on different websites that offer training in ‘content writing’ largely for the purpose of digital marketing. In all that I could read, I didn’t find a single mention of ‘reading’ or developing a habit of reading.

    It’s amazing! Just amazing!

Imagine, I keep repeating you need to be a good reader to be a good online shopper… Folks want to teach ‘content writing’ without mentioning ‘reading’. I am not out of touch!

  • Default Position During the Day

Right now, the default position is indoors, i.e. sitting at my desk. To do anything away from the desk, I’ve to get up on my feet and move.

Suppose I adopt my default position as standing/sitting outdoors, and I move from there to do whatever I need to. So, if it is a desk-oriented task, I step into my studio, finish it and go back to my default position outdoors.

Sounds tough. Can’t bear this way of sitting either.

Sitting while reading is tolerable. Sitting while waiting for other things or clicking, tapping stuff on/for the screen is just so frustrating.

Hierarchy is part-machine and part-non-machine. The part-non-machine part presses the button to kick-start the part-machine part.

  • Variety isn’t the solution

As a small-time businessman/entrepreneur for so many years now, I can tell you this: variety isn’t the solution.

Folks will continue to set up businesses in the domain of fashion, and just get consumed by the variety, irrespective of the result. That sort of ‘getting consumed’ isn’t a great thing.

    Solutions?

Finding pleasure in organizing variety, for only then you will organize it well.

Or build around a very restricted number.

But fashion is all about variety no? Yes it is mostly. Not always though. The challenge is to think what it is that will count as ‘fashion’ and yet not burden you with variety.

  • Calling it a TEXTBOOK

Someone got inspired and created something that came to be recognized as TEXTBOOK.

Or it just wasn’t a product of inspiration. It was just some piece of writing useful in some say and someone had to name it and so called it something as boring as TEXTBOOK. That someone perhaps knew that it had to carry a boring name.

    Boring book, boring name, TEXTBOOK.
