  • Why is it called so?

Sharing a couple of pictures, taken from the internet, before making my point:

A comparison image showing two types of shoes: on the left, a shoe labeled 'Wide Toe Box' with a natural toe shape on a green background, and on the right, a shoe labeled 'Wide Shoes' with a boat-shaped design on a red background.
Collage of images showcasing various types of shoes with wide toe boxes, including barefoot shoes, sandals, and sneakers, highlighting their natural toe shapes.

They call these shoes, which accommodate your toes and natural shape of the feet without scrunching, ‘wide toe box’ shoes. They’ve also been calling them barefoot shoes for quite long.

Both are misnomers. They imply the acceptance of the boat-shaped shoes as ‘normal’.

Huh! Never in the history of our evolution humans have had boat-shaped feet. Boat-shaped shoes are not normal. Not natural.

It is these newer ‘wide toe box’ shoes which have natural-looking and natural-feeling toe boxes that are normal. Most natural. And therefore, they aren’t ‘wide’. They are exactly as I’ve been trying to say. Natural. Natural toe box. Yeah?

We got used to wearing the non-normal boat-shaped shoes. Only now we’ve started adopting the natural toe box shoes. Long way to go. Have you stepped into the natural ones?

  • Bunion Corrector

My Facebook feed showed me an interesting ad. It’s about this:

They call it Bunion Corrector. It looks technologic!

What a fetish to wear pointy boaty footwear!

Woman, you will adopt this device but you will not stop wearing your boaty footwear! O, you need some marketing campaign to help you change your mind. I got that.

    God bless you!

  • 144

My list of boaty-shoe-sellers online in India has grown to 144.

    Here, have a look.

Unbelievable! If you window-shop for shoes, the list should serve you really well. May even exhaust you.

Compared to that, the list of footy-shoe-sellers has just 6! At least, so far. Among these 6, 2 are surely imported and are priced accordingly.

This listing business isn’t over. I am sure of discovering more on the boaty side. I will be surprised and glad to find more on the footy side; that’s where I shall look for my next pair.

Am I so out of tune with fashion!

    Horror!

I just come across this headline: ELEVATOR SHOES FOR MEN.

  • Proof of Boatiness

Since I have been checking websites that are selling shoes, I’ve been seeing plenty of ads of shoe brands in my feed.

And finally, I also come to see the word ‘boat’ to describe a shoe. I was wondering how is it that it’s only me who sees ‘boatiness’ in shoes all around me!

Right then, Boat Shoe looks like an old established name for what I call ‘boaty’ shoes.

Are your feet boaty? Or boat-like? Or boat-shaped?

Why do you wear boat-shaped shoes? Are boaty shoes comfortable? Or do they help you in walking or running?

When your feet aren’t boat-shaped, why wear boat-shaped shoes?

Do you think shoes have an impact on your body, on your health, on your mind? Or shoes are no more than fashion-accessories?

  • Boatiness Visually

Do these shoes look anything like the outline of your feet?

Oh, you haven’t seen the outline of your feet yet? Okay, you can do that now!

Can you see the ‘boatiness’ in these shoes?

  • Boatiness

    What’s that?

I do not want to offer a definition or a definitive answer. Why? Coz I’ve just discovered or, say, coined this expression. Let me offer some hints anyway.

Observe your shoes. Notice how they are shaped.

I find that an overwhelming majority of shoes- leather, canvas, sports- and even sandals worn by women exhibit ‘boatiness’. Notice?
