Do names mean anything?

And if they do, then do marketing professionals understand naming really? Alright have a look at the image below:

Pantaloons Femina Miss India

What does Pantaloons mean? Not talking about the dictionary meaning. Talking about the meaning that people have in mind…

Anyway, the dictionary says:

a man's close-fitting garment for the hips and legs, worn esp. in the
19th century, but varying in form from period to period; trousers.

And, culturally as well, the word has the same meaning. I wonder what is the brand doing with Femina Miss India. I wonder then why do budgets don't yield results… Guess Mr. Biyani knows better.

I guess Pantaloons emerged as a brand when organised retail was still very heavily limited to sarees in women wear. I am still unable to recall a saree brand other than Garden
It is post liberalisation that Womens wear as a brand entered organised the market(could be a liberation of working women and the psychii of office wear beyong Sarees). Today Pantaloons possibly has more Womens wear and accessories than options for Men.
Also does a name matter???? Not sure really. If Wagh Bakri can work for tea, Cherry Blossoms for a Shoe Polish or a small and fragile car named Maruti(I know it was Marut-God of wind actually) I dont really see Indians fussy about names.

This is a good one ! The name Pantaloon certainly doesn’t go with Femina Miss India. They haven’t built any explicit brand associations that could possibly bridge the gap with the FMI brand, either. One is masculine and fashion, the other feminine and beauty.
